HomePod mini 2 is Apple's new compact home hub
Apple's HomePod mini 2 works as a home hub for Apple Home, controls accessories by voice and can listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. It comes in five colours and goes on sale on 30 October.
Apple has announced HomePod mini 2, the second generation of its compact smart speaker, in pink, green, blue, white and midnight. As a home hub it lets you control Apple Home accessories from the Home app at home or away, run automations and scenes, and control accessories by voice. Several people in a household can manage the home with voice commands.
Sound Recognition listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and sends a notification to your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch if it hears one. Apple says this needs the updated Home architecture, which will come as a separate update to the Home app. Through the Home app you can also check in via the speaker to listen and talk to someone at home. Apple's announcement does not list the speaker's smart home radios, such as Thread.
Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on 13 October 2026. Pre-orders opened that day in the US and more than 23 other countries and regions, including Ireland and Germany, and the speaker goes on sale on 30 October 2026. It requires HomePod software 27.2.
